Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler
LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL
It's the greatest time of the year... MARDI GRAS. For 21 years, I have experienced the amazing tradition and season of Carnival. Being born and raised in New Orleans, Mardi Gras season has been ingrained inside my head much like Halloween time or Christmas time for others. Therefore, ever since I moved to California for college, I have made it a goal to find my way back to Mardi Gras during the second semester. While I have many stories about Mardi Gras that I can share, this blog post will mainly focus on my experience this year.
This year was interesting for me because it was the first time I brought college friends with me back to New Orleans. In the picture above, my friend Kevin (who goes to USC) is on the left having fun with my high school friends Bill (Red Shirt) and Robert (White Shirt). This experience was like a fever dream for me as I saw the crossover between my childhood and young adulthood intertwine. It was awesome being able to see my college friends experience the culture that I grew up in. I brought them all around the city and shared as much as I could. I took them to one of my favorite high school food spots, Bayou Hot Wings, and Kevin still craves it to this day. I took them to the legendary Bourbon Street, and Kevin and Sameer claim they have never seen anything like it. Mardi Gras can be extremely crazy, so I am very happy that both Kevin and Sameer got to have fun and make great memories. I can honestly go on for days about Mardi Gras, so if anybody wants to know more or possibly come next year, let me know!
