Overwhelming Stress? The importance of Mindfulness for young adults I'm tired. I'm stressed. There is not enough time in the day. I do not know what I am doing with my life. As a college student, I am willing to bet that you have had one of these negative thoughts within the past week. With stress levels being higher than ever in the younger generation, as a society, we have to make sure we implement new tools that give our future a good chance to succeed. Being labeled "The most anxious generation," young adults and children of Gen Z have an extremely heavy burden as they deal with the presence of social media, high expectations, and the lack of resources. One of the best ways to combat this anxiety is by incorporating Mindfulness into their everyday lives and education. Before I go into why mindfulness is crucial, you might be wondering what is mindfulness? Some of you may think of meditation and that it may "...

Random post 1

I don't know what to write, so I think I am going to treat this post like a free write. Everything that pops in my head, I am going to write. Funny enough, my roommate just walked in the room. I asked him what I should write about, and he said koalas. Unfortunately, neither my roommate or I know anything about koalas; he said he just felt like giving me one of his smart ass responses. However, now that he is in the room, I know what I will write about-- my roommates. I live with three people. I guess for this post, I will share random facts about them that pop in my head. First, we have the infamous roommate (technically suitemate) who said Koalas. Koala man's real name is Rachit. When he was younger, people used to think it was pronounced "Ratchet"; however, it is "ruh-chit." He's from all over. He was born in Singapore, then went to high school in Chicago, but he is now living in Cincinnati. He has an older brother and makes sure he carves out a time ...

Book 1 Post 2

In my first post about In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court  by Brittney Griner and Sue Hovey, I spoke about my lack of knowledge of Brittney Griner regarding who she was and her significance in the sports world. I only knew the absolute basics and got to be more aware of her life when she was detained in Russia in 2022. However, I knew I would want to learn more about who she was as a basketball player with her accomplishments on the court, and, more importantly, I wanted to learn about who she was as a person regarding her upbringing and how she got where she is today. I am proud to say that after finishing this book, I am not disappointed at all. Throughout this post, I will describe what I learned about Brittney Griner, the parts that stuck with me the most, and how I believe many people can relate to a part of her story. One of the biggest things that I learned from this book is that Brittney Griner is a FIGHTER. I mean this in multiple aspects. First, she is a ...

Book 1 Post 1

If I was given this assignment three years ago, I probably would not have chosen to read In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court  by Brittney Griner and Sue Hovey. Three years ago, the only thing I knew about Brittney Griner is that she believes she could beat Demarcus Cousins in 1v1 basketball game. Outside of that, I knew absolutely nothing about her. Honestly, I did not even care. I did not care that she was one of the best players in the WNBA. I did not care that she was one of the most prominent dunkers in WNBA history. All of that changed in February of 2022. Suddenly, she was all over the news as she got detained in Russia. I found myself constantly checking for updates about Brittney for the next 10 months. However, I realized I never learned about Brittney Griner prior to her detainment, so when the opportunity showed itself in Professor Hansen's writ 340 class, I took it.      In My Skin  was published April 8, 2014 --mu...
