World We Dare to Imagine Part 3: The Second Chance Foundation
The Second Chance Foundation aims to give released prisoners the ability to find a new life and succeed in today's complicated world. There are around 600,000 people getting released from prison every year who struggle to get back on their feet and live a responsible lifestyle. However, in today's society, without any support or resources, it can be extremely difficult to make an honest living. Therefore, many people find themselves back in the positions that put them in jail in the first place. This is why the Second Chance Foundation was created.
Arguably, I have seen some of the worse of the incarceration side in this country. Unfortunately, my home state has an extremely high incarceration rate of 1,094 per 100,000 people which means it locks up a higher percentage of its people than any other democratic country in the world. I have seen friends, family, and strangers been arrested since a young age, and it is something that can have a lasting affect on the individual and those around them for an entire lifetime. These experiences have lead to me being extremely passionate about giving second chances to many prisoners-- such as those who have been incarcerated wrongfully, at a young age, or convicted of lesser crimes.
The Second Chance Foundation would provide many resources to prisoners during and after their sentences. This resources would include education, job interviews, and volunteer opportunities. Additionally, it can be stressful and intimidating to move back to the community and area that lead convicts to prison; therefore, there will be a shelter that released prisoners can temporarily stay until they get back on their feet. Through these resources and opportunities, we can great a much safer and welcoming world to those who are looking to move on and be better from their past wrongful choices.
We are asking for the support of Anima Mundi Development Partners because everyone needs only to take their first step in order to begin their journey to a better life. Therefore, we are asking AMDP for an initial investment of 500,000 in order to get the shelter and foundation set up to begin reformation for these future members of society. These men and women have paid the price for their past choices and now deserve the chance to excel in this world that we all share.
