Who Am I?
Hey guys! My name is Brandon McGowan. I am going to be completely honest. I never know how to really do these things where you write about yourself because I am more of an in-person talker, so I am going to just start with the basics. I was born on January 14, 2003 and raised in New Orleans, LA. I love my city, and my family. I was blessed to be raised and supported by my amazing parents, Brian and Chandra. I am arguably blessed to have to deal with my annoying older brother, Brian Jr (all jokes, I love my brother). I am like my mother in my education as I always try my hardest to stay on top of all my work and thoroughly complete my assignments. I am like my father in social settings because I am a talker, and I always enjoy meeting new people, engaging in new conversations, and learning new perspectives.
Even though my parents always allowed me to choose my own path, I felt like I was under their expectations with the plan of going pre-med like my mother. However, I knew that I was never truly interested in medicine as much as her and did not think pre-med was right for me. That realization led to me switching to Marshall and changing my major to Business administration.
I am planning to pursue a career in marketing. I love interacting with others on a daily basis, so I hope to find myself as a manager at a marketing agency after I graduate. I plan on getting there by continuing to learn and gain experience through internships and marketing clubs.
I was fortunate enough to have a lot of support systems and role models outside of my family, so it is hard for me to choose just one person who served as a model for me. However, if I had to choose one, I would pick my high school advisor, Mrs. Hoffman. I used to call her my "school mom" because I could always reach out to her with anything that I am struggling with, and she always seemed to have the answer. She is an extremely hard worker and an even more compassionate person, and I hope I can be similarly as successful as her in life.
I feel a special connection with bears mainly because bears can be seen as big and aggressive but, in reality, also have caring and protective side. I have been told by friends that I can come off the same way, and never knew if this was a good or bad thing, but I have decided to just embrace it. Some people might see me as bigger guy, but I'd rather show my personality and be caring for others.
My childhood encounter with nature was with the walnut trees in my backyard. When I was younger, I would go pick the walnuts from the trees to bring in for my mom and use them to cook inside desserts like brownies. Ironically, I do not like walnuts; however, my mom does, and I liked to help her.

This is just a little introduction to me. I am excited to get to know everyone throughout the semester!
I think it's okay to feel like more of an in-person talker and to be honest, some times I feel the same! But also I'd say you should just write how you would talk in-person! It doesn't matter too much if it sounds "correct" in a writing sense but rather it is an extension of your true thoughts and personality. I am so glad that you were able to experience many support systems and role models while also finding your own path towards marketing. I wish you the best of luck in your educational and career journeys and I know already from your outlook on life that you'll do great! Can't wait to know you more from this class and throughout the semester Brandon!
ReplyDeleteGreat story! Your personality really reflected in your paper, I felts you are right in front of me when I read it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Matthew about writing things down! I used to feel the same way, but the old pen and purple release a lot of stresses and tensions from my body. I can relate about pursuing pre-med; it was not for me either. I'm also headed for marketing! You are so right about bears... if not friend, why friend shaped?
ReplyDeleteHi Brandon,
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you're from New Orleans! I would love to get to go there sometime. My dad went with his friends when I was a kid, and I was so jealous. You'll have to tell me more about being from there!
